It began when the world crumbled down, and a flower bloomed in the rubble. Long time youth guitarist, Jared Wait-Molyneux had been looking for a band to play with. Friend, Jacob Gellman, a new bassist was interested in music, and although not a skilled bassist, was willing to learn. Jared's brother Colby had been in since he started playing drums, and the core of The Shivas was formed. Eric Shanafelt joined shortly after, playing the congas. Formed in Vancouver, Washington, The Shivas play with what they have and hope for more. Playing in clubs around the Portland, Oregon and Vancouver, Washington area, The Shivas are gaining local recognition. The 4 piece band takes influence from the psychedelic era, and artists such as The Velvet Underground, The Beatles, The Seeds, and Jimi Hendrix, while also taking influence from current day bands such as The Brian Jonestown Massacre and The Lovetones. Seeming to mix the old and new, The Shivas have a bright, original, sound. The lyrics are an unusual relief from what the radio may bring. Adding to their original sound, The Shivas use many… odd instruments, such as: Sitar, Djembe, Dumbek, and Bouhran drum. Presently, Jacob, bassist has left the band, not feeling the vibe, and Griffin Taylor has joined. A welcome addition. The Shivas are currently playing gigs, jamming, and having a good time, hoping to expand and continue in the direction they are headed. They have their first album, an LP titled, Where Have You Gone To?, due out this Spring.
